A discipline concerned both with the structure of antibody (immunoglobulin) molecules and with their ability to bind an apparently limitless number of diverse chemical structures (antigens); with the structure, organization, and rearrangement of the genes coding for the immunoglobulin molecules; and with the structure and function of molecules on the surface of animal cells, such as the transplantation (histocompatibility) antigens, which recognize antibodies and the thymus-derived lymphocytes mediating the cellular immune response. a branch of immunology that studies the chemical foundations of immunity. The principal problems of immunochemistry are the study of the structure and properties of immune proteins—antibodies—and natural and synthetic antigens, as well as the elucidation of the laws governing the interactions between these principal components of immunological reactions in various organisms. Immunochemical methods also find practical application, especially during the separation and purification of the active principles of vaccines and serums.

Citing a need for economical analytical methods for detecting trace levels of hazardous compounds in complex environmental and biological media, Van Emon (director for the immunochemistry program at the US Environmental Protection Agency, National Exposure Research Laboratory) notes that immunochemical methods are capable of achieving very low detection levels and are particularly adaptable.
The company cited data by market researchers according to which the IVD market in the country is estimated to be about USD 400 million (EUR 296.2m), with 70% of such market being composed of immunochemistry (32%), haematology/coagulation (14%) and chemistry/urine analysis (25%).
This reagent is fully automated when run on any of the UniCel DxC Synchron Systems or the IMMAGE immunochemistry system.
With in the biochemistry section of the text, they provide chapters on carbohydrates; lipids; proteins; enzymes; neurotransmitters and hormones; nucleotides, nucleic acids, and heredity; gene expression and protein synthesis; bioenergetics; catabolic pathways; biosynthetic pathways; nutrition; and immunochemistry. Pedagogical features new to this edition are a "key questions" framework for emphasizing important chemical concepts, "challenge" problems, "how to" boxes, and links to a new website with additional problems and tutorials.
The immunochemistry segment generated the largest portion of IVD revenues in the country, amounting to USD 408.8 million, which contributed 46.6% to the total market in fiscal 2013.
