Indiana Dunes National Park,

15,177 acres (6,142 hectares), NW Indiana, on the southern tip of Lake Michigan, est. 1966 as Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, designated a national park 2019. The park's 15-mile-long (25-km) lakeshore is dominated by massive sand dunes that can rise as much as 200 ft (60 m) above the beach; part of the shoreline and dunes are located in the adjacent Indiana Dunes State Park. Located in a zone where the eastern deciduous forest meets the prairie, the park also has extensive wetlands, forest, and prairie, and is one of the most biologically diverse places in North America, including more than 350 species of birds.
