People who use their brains and not their brawn to earn a living. In the IT field, almost everyone is a knowledge worker, including all categories of system analysts and programmers. Years ago, datacenter operators carried magnetic tapes, disk cartridges and boxes of paper from one place to another; however, their jobs were still more brain power than muscle.
