town (1991 pop. 9,378), S Ont., Canada, on the Thames River, E of London. It has a large dairy-processing industry. Named for Thomas Ingersoll, father of the Canadian heroine Laura SecordSecord, Laura (Ingersoll), 1775–1868, Canadian heroine of the War of 1812.
