integrin
[in′teg·rən] (cell molecular)
A heterodimeric transmembrane receptor protein of animal cells that binds to components of the extracellular matrix on the outside of a cell and to the cytoskeleton on the inside of the cell, functionally connecting the cell interior to its exterior; in blood cells, integrins are also involved in cell-cell adhesion.
