(physical chemistry)
Analog of the dissociation constant, where k = [H+][A-]/[HA]; used for the application of the law of mass action to ionization; in the equation HA represents the acid, such as acetic acid.

Potentiometric Determination of the Ionization Constants. The ionization constants of the ionizable group in Schiff base under investigation are determined by a method similar to that described by Calvin-Bjerrum [32].
(NASDAQ: SLP) said it has completed a 14-month collaborative project with Bayer HealthCare, a subgroup of Bayer AG, to improve prediction of ionization constants for drug-like molecules.
where [[beta].sup.HDP.sub.MHDP], [[beta].sup.HT.sub.MHT], and [[beta].sup.T.sub.MT] are the stability constants of PDCA and tartaric acid; [f.sub.HDP], [f.sub.HT], and [f.sub.T] are the fractions of the respective weak acid ligand, which at constant pH value can be calculated using the PDCA ([pK.sub.1] = 2.16; [pK.sub.2] = 4.76) and tartaric acid ionization constants [10-11].
