salts of the general formula Me2SO4.Fe2.(SO4)3.24H2O, where Me represents K, Na, NH4, and so on. Iron alums are complex compounds, whose formulas are often written as Me[Fe(SO4)2].12H2O. Ammonium ferric alum is used in analytical chemistry.
