On the east-central border of IL, south of Kankakee; organized Feb 26, 1833 from Vermilion County. Name Origin: For the Indian tribe, a French transliteration of the Algonquian name 'real adders.'

On 26 August 2003, the Ford-Iroquois Public Health Department (FIPHD) in east Illinois was notified of a cluster of five ill workers with fevers and respiratory symptoms at a bridge reconstruction site in Iroquois County. Onsets of illness for the five workers were 16-22 August.
