Kozyrevskii, Ivan Petrovich


Born circa 1680; date of death unknown. Russian explorer.

A Yakut cossack, Kozyrevskii was one of the first explorers of the Kuril Islands. In 1711 (with D. Antsiferov) and in 1713 he made voyages to the two northern islands of the Kuril Ridge; he completed the first Russian sketch of the chain of islands. A cape and mountain on the Kuril Islands were named after Kozyrevskii.
