Starostin, Ivan


Year of birth unknown; died 1826. Russian polar navigator and trapper.

In 1780, Starostin began the first of many voyages to Spitsbergen. He spent 32 winters near Isfjorden, on Vestspitsbergen. A cape on Spitsbergen was named in his honor.
