Ixora

 

a genus of evergreen shrubs or small trees of the family Rubiaceae with opposite or verticillate, entire, and large leaves. The fragrant flowers (20 or more in a corymb) may be pink, red, orange, or white. The corolla is long, slender-tubed, and wide-spreading. There are more than 200 species of Ixora in India, Ceylon, Java, Kalimantan, and other tropical regions; one species is found on Madagascar. Some species are cultivated as ornamentals in greenhouses and indoors. The species I. ferrea, found in the Antilles, has very durable wood.
