Jacquet, (Jean Baptiste) “Illinois”

(1922–  ) jazz musician; born in Broussard, La. An outstanding tenor saxophonist, he emerged with Lionel Hampton in 1942, toured with Jazz at the Philharmonic between 1944–47, and led his own bands thereafter.
