Jalapa Enríquez

 

a city in Mexico, on the Veracruz-Mexico City highway and railroad line. Capital of the state of Veracruz. Population, 98,000 (1974). The city has cotton and food-processing industries. It is the center of an agricultural region, in which fruits and industrial crops are cultivated on plantations. Jalapa Enríquez has a university.
