Born June 9, 1885, in Rochester. British mathematician.
Littlewood was a professor at Cambridge University from 1928 to 1950. His principal studies, most of which were done with G. Hardy, deal with number theory (estimate of the remainder term in the asymptotic expression for the number of primes smaller than the given number, the calculation of the number of representations of a natural number in the form of the sum of natural numbers), trigonometric series, summation of series and Tauberian theorems, the theory of functions of a complex variable (in particular, schlicht functions), and inequalities.
