Kanitel’

 

(from French cannetille), in Russian, a fine thread (usually gold or silver) used in embroidery. The word has taken on the figurative meaning of a protracted transaction involving lengthy delays and considerable effort. The expression tianuf kaniteT means to perform monotonous and unnecessary actions.
