Kashgar

 

a city in western China, in the Sinkiang-Uighur Autonomous Region, located on the Kashgar River in the center of a large oasis in the southern foothills of the Tien-Shan. Population, 90, 800 (1953). The city consists of two parts—Shifu and Shule. Kashgar was a transport center on an ancient trade route. It is now an important economic center, with agricultural machine-building and textile, flour-milling, and ceramics enterprises. The handicrafts industry is also well developed. A hydroelectric power plant is located in the city.


Kashgar

 

(Kyzylsu), a river in western China and in the USSR, with its upper course in the Tadzhik and Kirghiz Soviet Socialist Republics. The Kashgar is 765 km long (including 685 km in China) and drains an area (together with the Gezdar’ia River) of 90,800 sq km. It rises in the slopes of the Alai and Trans-Alai ranges and has a mountain character in its upper course. The lower Kashgar flows through the Kashgar Plain, watering a large oasis of over 2,500 sq km. The average discharge in the lower course is 77 cu m per sec, with a maximum of approximately 500 cu m per sec. There are summer floods with considerable sediment discharge. The Kashgar previously flowed into the Yarkand but now is lost in the sands of Tograkkum. Thecity of Kashgar is located on it.

According to the plan, a new 1,059 kilometer railway line from Havelian in Pakistan's province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Kashghar in Chinese province of Xinjiang would be laid to connect both the countries through railways.
The CPEC is a US $ 52 billion project (being financed by China) to connect Kashghar city of China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region with Gwadar port of Pakistan.

In his dreamy scheme for the Ummah he, in one of his verses, he alluded to a unity from the banks of Nile to the soil of Kashghar. This was, it goes without saying, in contravention of historical, ethnic, sectarian, cultural and linguistic realities.
Ambassador Khalid said the third area of cooperation under the CPEC was Gwadar port development which would be linked up Kashghar, an important city in southern Xinjiang Autonomous Region.

And if that trims China's 10,000km distance to Middle East markets and beyond - from the South China Sea to the Straits of Malacca - by more than half when CPEC connects Kashghar to Gwadar, then so be it.
The ongoing CPEC and establishing of Kashghar Gwadar road-rail network is an enhancing development in the accurate direction for the benefit of all regional stakeholders.
FWO has also initiated two major projects including a parallel pipeline for multiproduct movement from Memhoodkot via Thallian near RawAalApindi to Taru-Jabba near Peshawar and a cross-country pipeline from Gwadar to Kashghar for commercial transportation of crude oil.
Kyrgyz Ambassador to Pakistan hoped that the planned railway link from Kashghar in China to Karachi and Gwadar in Pakistan under CPEC, after completion, will connect Pakistan to Kyrgyz Republic through rail network, leading to more economic opportunities.
The proposed corridor would link Pakistan's underdeveloped and largely underutilized but strategically located Gwadar Port to the Kashghar border region in western China.
