Rice, the most important commercial crop, is grown on the wide coastal plains; other products are rubber and copra. Tin, gold, manganese, and iron are mined on a small scale in the hills of the interior. The people are mainly Malay, but there is a small Chinese minority. Kelantan
a state in Malaysia, in the northeastern part of the Malay Peninsula. Area, 14,900 sq km; population, 686,300 (1970). Its administrative center is the city of Kota Baharu. Rice is cultivated, and there are rubber and coconut plantations. Primary processing of agricultural products is conducted in Kelantan. There is fishing.
