Khartoum North

 

a city in the Sudan; situated on the right bank of the Blue Nile, at the point of its confluence with the White Nile. Population, 161,000 (1973). Khartoum North, Omdurman. and Khartoum together constitute a single metropolitain area. Khartoum North has a railroad station. It has enterprises of the metalworking, textile, and food-processing industries. A shipyard is also located in the city. Cotton, grain, and livestock are traded.
