a river in Kemerovo Oblast, RSFSR (lower course is in Tomsk Oblast); left tributary of the Chulym River. Length, 548 km; basin area, 32,200 sq km. The river rises in the eastern slopes of the Kuznetsk Alatau; in its upper course it flows primarily through these slopes. The river is fed by snow and rain. The mean annual flow rate at the city of Mariinsk is approximately 150 cu m per sec. The Kiia freezes in November and thaws in April. The principal tributaries are the Tiazhin and Chef on the right and the Kozhukh and Antibes on the left. Timber is floated on the river.
