Kiran
a landlocked salt lake in the Buriat ASSR, in the valley of the Chikoi River, 30 km east of the city of Kiakhta. Its size varies. When the lake level is average, it has an area of 0.4 sq km, but after rains the area is up to 1 sq km, and in dry years the lake dries up. It is less than 1 m deep. Among the salts in the water are NaCl, Na2SO4, and Na2CO3. The lake bottom is covered with therapeutic muds. There is a balneological health resort (water and mud bath treatments) on its shore.
