A peninsula in western WA, bounded on east by Puget Sound, west of Seattle. Organized as Slaughter County Jan 16, 1857 (prior to statehood) from Jefferson and King counties; name changed Jul 13, 1857. Name Origin: For an Indian chief, whose name means 'brave,' said to have saved area settlers by warning them of a planned massacre. Originally named for Lt. W.A. Slaughter (?-1855)
