In the northwestern corner of MN, north of Grand Forks, ND; established as Pembina County Apr 24, 1879 from unorganized lands; name changed Mar 9, 1878. Name Origin: For Norman Wolfred Kittson (1814-88), fur trader, territorial legislator (1851-55), and mayor of Saint Paul (1858)
