Knopoff, Leon

(1925–  ) geophysicist; born in Los Angeles. A professor of physics (1955) and research musicology (1961) at the University of California: Los Angeles, he combined knowledge of wave behavior gained from both fields to make major contributions to studies of wave propagation, the acoustics of solids, seismology, and the physicochemical structure of the earth's interior.
