Kokarev, Aleksandr Akimovich
Born Aug. 5 (18), 1909, in the city of Aleksandrovsk, now Zaporozh’e. Soviet state and party figure. Member of the CPSU since 1938.
The son of a worker, Kokarev graduated from the evening division of the Zaporozh’e Industrial Institute in 1938. During the periods 1933 to 1945 and 1946 to 1950, Kokarev worked at various plants as head of a department, head of a shop, head of production, deputy director, and director. From 1950 to 1954 he was first secretary of the Krasnoiarsk city committee of the CPSU. Kokarev was second secretary of the Krasnoiarsk Krai Committee of the CPSU from 1954 to 1958 and first secretary from 1958 to 1969. He was first secretary of the rural krai committee in 1963 and 1964.
In 1969, Kokarev was named chief of the Central Board of State Material Resources under the Council of Ministers of the USSR. He was chairman of the State Committee on Material Resources of the USSR and from 1978 to 1980. He was a member of the Central Committee of the CPSU from 1961 to 1981. He served as a deputy to the fifth through tenth convocations of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
Kokarev has been awarded five Orders of Lenin, the Order of the October Revolution, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
