Kore

a statue of a standing draped maiden. Widespread in archaic Greek art, this form also appeared in Ionian statuary in the second quarter of the sixth century B.C.. The kore subsequently became a part of the art of Attica. Archaic immobility and rigidity are combined with subtle, austere elegance in the korai of Ionia and Attica. Ionian korai, draped in magnificent robes, are marked by a detailed rendering of the sculptured surface. Attic korai are less rigid and have more generalized drapery.
