Korhogo

(kôrhō`gō), town (1996 est. pop. 158,300), N Côte d'Ivoire. It is an administrative and processing center for a mountainous region where cotton, kapok, rice, millet, peanuts, corn, and yams are grown and sheep and goats are raised. Diamonds are mined in the area. Korhogo was on an important precolonial trade route to the Atlantic coast.

a city in the northern part of the Ivory Coast Republic, on the Ferkéssédougou-Odienné highway. Population, 24,000 (1965). Korhogo has a rice-polishing plant.

At the village of Korhogo in Ivory Coast, an art of hand painting the Senoufo strip wove cloth with Senoufo images, mostly animals, birds and masquerades was started about 60 years ago.
For example, French colonial administrator Maurice Delafosse (1909: 1-2) wrote about night-time performances he attended in the early twentieth century during the great funerary ceremonies for the father of Gbon Coulibaly, the distinguished local leader of Korhogo, Cote d'lvoire.
