Korkino

 

a city in Cheliabinsk Oblast, RSFSR. A railroad station 35 km south of Cheliabinsk. Population, 69,000 (1972). Korkino is a center for the mining of lignite in the Cheliabinsk coal basin. It has plants for the repair of excavators, railroad cars, and automobiles; plants producing cement, wall materials, mine supports, and glass; an asbestos cement combine; and a garment factory. Korkino’s educational institutions include technicums in mine construction, building materials, and food processing.
