Kotor, Gulf of

 

(Boka Kotorska), a gulf of the Adriatic Sea, on the southern coast of Yugoslavia (the Socialist Republic of Montenegro). Length, 22.5 km; width at the mouth, 3 km; depth, 19–40 m. It consists of several broad sections with straits between them. The gulf is surrounded by limestone mountains. There are semidiurnal tides of up to 0.6 m. The Gulf of Kotor is a good natural harbor. At the head of the bay is the city and port of Kotor.
