Krutoi

Died 1093. Slavic prince who headed the Wend State from 1066 to 1093.

Krutoi fought against the forcible Christianization of the Polabian Slavs by the German feudal lords. He subjugated Nordalbingia (a region on the lower Elbe) by exploiting the weakness of the Holy Roman Empire under Henry IV. Krutoi died in a struggle against Prince Gotshalk’s son Henry, an ally of the German (Saxon) feudal lords.
