Kubatly

 

an urban-type settlement and the administrative center of Kubatly Raion, Azerbaijan SSR. Situated on the Bargiushad River (Araks basin), 35 km north of the Akara railroad station, on the Baku-Yerevan line, the settlement has an asphalt plant, a poultry hatchery, and a stone quarry.

To the south, Armenian forces took in August 1993 four more Azeri towns: Kubatly, Fizuli, Jebrail and Zangelan, adjacent to Nagorno-Karabakh, and reached the river Araxes along the Iranian border by October 1993, displacing the local Azeri population.
