Lérida

 

a city in Catalonia, northeastern Spain, in the foothills of the Pyrenees, on the Segre River; administrative center of the Lérida province. Population, 88,900 (1971). Transportation junction on the Saragossa-Barcelona main railroad line. Lérida is a trade center for an agricultural region, supplying Spain and the foreign market with vegetables, fruits, and poultry and pork products. It has a brewery, and ceramic products are manufactured.
