Lafever, Minard

(1798–1854) builder/architect; born near Morristown, N.J. His five builders' guides (1829–56) spread the Greek Revival style nationwide, while his many New York City churches popularized various other revival styles, notably Gothic.

American architect in New York; author of popular builder’s guides that disseminated the Greek Revival nationwide. Also designed numerous churches: Sailors’ Snug Harbor (1833), Staten Island, NY; New Dutch South Reformed Church (1840), New York; and Church of the Holy Trinity (1847), Brooklyn, NY.
