Latrobe, Benjamin

(1764–1820)
Trained in Europe but emigrated to the United States, where he met George Washington. He built a number of public buildings, including work on the U.S. Capitol, Washington, DC (18031814), and advised Thomas Jefferson on the design of the University of Virginia campus (1817).
