Lawton, Henry Ware

(1843–99) soldier; born near Toledo, Ohio. A Civil War veteran, he commanded cavalry on the western plains and took part in the campaign (1885–86) that ended in Geronimo's capture. He commanded a division that fought in Cuba during the Spanish-American War and he was killed leading a division in the Philippine insurrection.
