Lazar Parbetsi

Years of birth and death unknown. Armenian historian of the fifth century A.D.

Parbetsi’s History in three books concerns events in Armenia after its partition in 387 and includes a description of the uprisings of the Armenian people (led by Vardan Mamikonian [in 450–451] and by Vahan Mamikonian [481–484]) against Iranian sovereignty. Parbetsi’s work is imbued with a consciousness of the unity of political interests of Armenia, Georgia, and Caucasian Albania in their struggle against Iran. A letter from Parbetsi to Vahan Mamikonian has been preserved.
