Lensk

 

(the settlement of Mukhtuia until 1963), a city, the administrative center of Lensk Raion, Yakut ASSR, situated on the left bank of the Lena River. Lensk is a large river port, receiving and transporting cargo for the diamond industry in the Yakut ASSR. It is linked by highway with Mirnye. Population, 18,000 (1972). Lensk has a woodworking combine and produces construction materials.
