Taking this further, he argues that contrary to assumptions commonly held for the Lesser Sunda Islands, there was no diarchy (of the ritual and secular) in Sikka society, and this institution and practice would not have been a common feature of societies in the Lesser Sunda islands.
Ultimately, readers will draw from this book a deeper understanding of history and historiography not only in Sikkanese and eastern Lesser Sunda, but also in Southeast Asia, especially in terms of local and colonial knowledge formations, and of the methods and methodologies of working with texts derived from oral traditions.
