On Gulf coast of FL, west of Ocala; organized Mar 10, 1845 from Alachua and Marion counties. Name Origin: For David Levy [Yulee] (1810-86), West Indian-born FL legislator, first U.S. senator from FL (1845-51; 1855-61), and member of the Confederate Congress (1861-65)
