Liaotung, Gulf of

 

a gulf of the Yellow Sea between the coast of mainland Asia and the Liaotung Peninsula. It extends into land areas for 220 km. Width at the entrance, 175 km; depth, 10-50 m. In the winter there is drift ice near the coast. Tides are irregular semidiurnal; their magnitude is 4.4 m. The port of Yingkou (People’s Republic of China) is located on the gulf.
