Low Tatra

(Nízké Tatry), a mountain range of the Western Carpathians in Czechoslovakia. The range is about 100 km long and rises to 2, 043 m on Mount Dumbier. It has a relatively flat granite crest and limestone slopes broken up into spurs. There is intensive karst development, for example, the Demänovska Cave, a famous tourist attraction. Forests of spruce and fir cover the lower slopes, and the upper slopes support dwarf woodland and alpine meadows used for grazing. There are also mineral springs.
