Lower Hutt
a town in New Zealand, in the southern part of North Island. Population, 59,100 (1969). It has a railroad station and is an important industrial center, with an automobile assembly plant and enterprises producing electrical equipment and structural parts. Among the other industries are chemicals, food, textiles, and footwear.
