1770–1840, king of Prussia (1797–1840), son and successor of Frederick William II. Well-intentioned but weak and vacillating, he endeavored to maintain neutrality in the Napoleonic Wars.

; a princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. During the Napoleonic Wars her patriotism and bravery won her lasting popularity. In 1807 she humiliated herself in vain at Tilsit before the French emperor, Napoleon I, begging him to lighten the peace terms for Prussia.
