a city (a settlement until 1957), the administrative center of Lukhovitsy Raion, Moscow Oblast, RSFSR. Lukhovitsy has a station on the Moscow-Riazan’ railroad line, 135 km southeast of Moscow and 22 km southeast of Kolomna. Lukhovitsy is linked with the city of Zaraisk by a 27-km railroad branch. Population, 18,000 (1970). Lukhovitsy has a garment factory, a cannery, a dairy, and a flour mill.
