Location:On Kalapana-Kapoho Beach Road (Highway 137), 9 miles northeast of Kaimu.
Facilities:Campsites, picnic area, trail; no drinking water.
Activities:Tent camping, picnicking, hiking, shore fishing.
Special Features:Park features low cliffs, a wild volcanic coastline, and an ironwood grove. An old Hawaiian coastal trail traverses the park.

MacKenzie State Recreation Area on the coast had also been closed during and after the eruption, but reopened on Sept.
Both Lava Tree State Monument and MacKenzie State Recreation Area have been closed since shortly after the eruption began.
DOCARE reports 32-year old Alexander White and 41-year old Ruth Moss were cited in the closed area at the bottom of Highway 137 near MacKenzie State Recreation Area. They were with two children and were observed walking along the shoreline at Coconut Grove on Saturday at 12:45 p.m.
