asteroid belt

(main belt) The zone near to the plane of the ecliptic and between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter that contains the majority of asteroids, known as main-belt asteroids. The edges are well-defined at distances from the Sun of about 1.7 and 4.0 AU respectively and the orbits are strongly concentrated in the plane of the ecliptic. Even so, the individual asteroids in the main belt are widely spaced. The orbital inclination becomes more scattered on moving through the belt. The average inclination is about 10° and the average eccentricity is 0.15. All the bodies are in direct motion. Occasional collisions between asteroids occur at velocities of about 5 km s–1. See also Kirkwood gaps.

There is a newly recognized class of little objects that exist within the Main Belt between Mars and Jupiter where only asteroids are supposed to frolic--and they look very much like comets.
The following are the 4 (four) Main Belt Asteroid discoveries in 2011:
In comparison with other systems its unique feature is the continuous product flow, as the finger transfer is combined with a FreeFlow belt very close to the main belt or chain, so the area of accumulation is minimised.
The main belt loop is of cowhide and has an extended tab that is stitched around the top of the holster for added support.
"It takes just 80 minutes to complete a full cycle of dinting and deliver 3.2 [m.sup.3] on to the main belt in the face gate.
In particular, note Zubrin and Wagner, the planet would be a convenient local supplier for mining operations in one of the solar system's most resource-rich neighborhoods: the "Main Belt" of asteroids between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
Tenders are invited for cleaning of spillage coal and maintenance of 1200/1000mm wide main belt conveyor namely c-8 belt conveyor in u/g at west block of churcha mine (ro)
"So far, several tens of asteroids detected by Gaia have been observed from the ground in response to the alert system, all of them belonging to the main belt, but it is possible that also near-Earth asteroids will be spotted in the future."
Discovered in 1871, it's about 50 km (30 mi) across and has a rocky "S-type" surface spectrum typical of bodies populating the inner main belt. Based on the lengths of each occultation record and how they line up in the plot, Amaithea must have a distinctly elongated shape.
"Analysis of images taken of our solar system's main belt asteroids between Mars and Jupiter using the algorithm showed a 15 percent increase in positive identification of new asteroids," a NASA statement explained.
The most interesting asteroids are those that do not orbit within the main belt. For example, (433) Eros is a Mars-crosser asteroid, moving within the orbit of Mars.
The unit supports loads up to 617 pounds per foot on a low-friction, 0.34-inch-thick acetal main belt. The non-contact manipulation eliminates product impact and abrasion damage from pushers, as well as mechanical adjustment or changeovers for conventional diverters or guides.
