Malmquist bias

(mahm -kwist, mahlm -kvist) The bias inherent in any flux-limited sample due to the fact that only the very brightest systems will be detected at greater cosmological distances, and thus such sources will be over-represented in the sample. This can cause errors in distance determination, such as the distance to the further standard candles being underestimated.
