exhaust manifold[ig′zȯst ‚man·ə‚fōld]
A branched system of pipes to carry waste emissions away from the piston chambers of an internal combustion engine.
The collector arrangement for exhaust gases of reciprocating engines. The manifold is attached to the individual exhaust ports and carries the exhaust gases overboard through a common discharge. See exhaust collector ring.
