Mannar, Gulf of

 

a gulf of the Indian Ocean between the southeastern coast of the Hindustan Peninsula, the island of Sri Lanka, and the chain of islands and rocks bearing the name of Adam’s Bridge. It is shallow near the shores but reaches a depth of 1,335 m in the central part. There is pearl fishing in the gulf.
