In southern VA, 32 mi. west of Danville. Founded 1791; incorporated as a town in 1873; as a city in 1928. Serves as county seat for Henry County. Name Origin: For Gen. Joseph Martin (1740-1808), pioneer settler and army officer who represented the county in the General Assembly when the town was established
