materials science

Discovering new materials. Dating back to the 17th century in Europe, known as the "Age of Enlightenment," materials science encompasses the discovery of new elements as well as the synthesis of existing materials. It includes nanostructures (invisible to the naked eye) to microstructures (from invisible to visible) to macrostructures (totally visible).
